Drake: Honestly, Nevermind Album Review

Updated: Dec 12, 2022

Drake released his 7th Album "Honestly, Nevermind". This was a welcome surprise for his fans! Drake seems to be experimenting with some of the upbeat/pop/house sounds from his previous albums: Views, More Life and Take Care. He's taken the vibe and sound from those tracks but has elevated and is bolder about it. This is definitely a different sound that his core fan base may not be used to. Drake is experimenting and I think this was a welcome change in sound!

Running thoughts as I listen to "Honestly, Nevermind"

  • Six tracks in: It's giving very much pop/techno/house vibes so I believe it would definitely resonate with a certain demographic. I also think a lot of songs would bang on holidays - Think summer in Mykonos.

    • "Texts go green" is cool.

    • The song writing isn't great - quite lazy and it's very repetitive which is sad as Drake is know for his iconic bars and one-liners.

    • My favourite song is "Current" at the moment.

  • From Track 7: "Sticky", Drake starts to rap which livens up the album. I really like "Sticky". It's got an upbeat vibe.

  • The tracks all blend seamlessly together.

  • This is definitely more of a singing album from Drake - this brings back memories of Drake from back in the day.

  • Only one feature on this album, "Jimmy Cooks" features 21 Savage.

Closing Remarks & Verdict

My top songs are "Sticky", "Current" and "Liability". "Sticky" is the top track on the album for me! Perhaps the others will be a slow burner s🤷🏾‍♀️? We'll see.

I think the album could've done with some Amapiano or SA house fusion - for a different vibe.

Overall, I'm left feeling very underwhelmed by this album and can't really say that any of the tracks are a "hit" 😔. This is not necessarily a bad thing and I don't think Drake was looking for a banger-packed album.

"Honestly, Nevermind" is an experimental album and I feel like Drake needed this as his sound was becoming a little monotonous - DEEJANE

Verdict: ⭐️⭐️ (2/5)
